Ambitious Violet Creations is a unique online store offering a wide range of hand assembled prayer malas, jewlery, also some clothing and accessories. All offerings are made from clothing and materials gathered from antique stores, yard sales, estate sales, and second hand stores. My creations are a mixture of natural, man-made, semi-precious, and not so much, beads, seads, nuts, shells, buttons, beach glass, blown and fused glass, charms, pendants, bone and ivory beads and pieces, that I have collected from here and there. Their original providence is unknown to me. they have been washed and sanitized as well as can be without harm.
They were chosen for their color, texture, personality, and their ability to be both useful and attractive. I give them a new life and a new state of being. They share their beauty and their utility. The prayer beads, or malas I have made emphasize balance, color, and beauty. They are understated spiritually speaking, and can be worn any time without shouting their spiritual use.
With regard to the use of antique ivory and bone beads: All pieces that have ivory and bone materials in their construction are documented as such in the product descriptions. Because the terrible history of slaughter and near extiction of tusk bearing animals, many are opposed to the use of these beads and carvings. For many centuries in Tibetan Buddhist Monastaries, it was the practice of monks to use the skull caps of deceased monks people they knew and cared about, as begging bowls. This practice was done to acknowledge the impermance of all life and all things. This was done with reverence and conscience. It is this example that I follow in using antique ivory and bone materials. They are used with reverence and conscience.
The general philosophy behind Ambitious Violet Creations is threefold. First, in the Buddhist and Hindu traditions all things, people and states of being are temporary. Everything and everyone, including the universe is impermanent. Eventually all things pass away and become something or someone else, depending on your personal beliefs. Not all creations are spiritual in nature. Some are just pretty. In no way do I wish to impose any religious beliefs on anyone else. That is for each person to choose for themselves.
Second, Millions of tons of usable durable goods including clothing, shoes, accessories go into landfills every year. Everthing we purchase used, and reuse, reduces our impact on the Earth, as well as reducing the amount of fossil fuels needed to produce whatever it is new and transport it to where you purchase it new. By reusing materials already made we both give and receive wonderful gifts. We have the joy of knowing we are doing more to reduce our individual and collective impact on our planet, by better use of our resources and reduction of pollution as well as reducing waste. It's good for your Karma! Whatever our Spiritual beliefs, we need to do more to use less for the good of the Earth and every living thing that inhabits it.
Finally, the name Ambitious Violet was reverently borrowed from a short story by Kahlil Gibran, author of The Prophet. The story is about a lowly violet in a garden who grows in the shade of majestic roses with many other violets. Unhappy with her lot in life she begs Mother Nature to change her into a rose. Mother Nature implores her to reconsider her wish but eventually grants it. She basks in the sun of her new being with joy all day. Late in the afternoon a great storm lays waste to the garden and only the lowly violets are unharmed. They mock their changed sister who lays dying. Mother Nature censures their callousness and tells them they wrong to feel such contempt for the violet who wished to be more than she was. With her last breath the Ambitious Violet tells the other violets that she dies happy knowing she has lived unafraid and chosen to be more than the sum of her lowly parts. This parable, if you will, teaches that all must strive do more and be more than nature and society wish to dictate. This is a philosophy which I embrace and follow. We should all refuse to have our lot in life assigned to us by others. Ultimately it is not the achieved goal which matters but the seeking to be, and growing to be more that matters. It is the journey not the destination, and each of us have the divine right to choose our own path.
Come and Go in Peace and Joy!
